While it tends to be something you read about being a problem for women, the truth is that men get yeast infections, too. There is a belief that removing pubic hair increases the chances of a sexually transmitted disease (STD) although the research isn’t definitive. Pubic hair removal however can irritate the area in question especially a sensitive spot like the genitals which can lead to skin infections. Shaving, waxing and other hair removal options can be the culprit as can dirty adult toys or being infected directly by your partner.
If you’re shaving or waxing down there, you can create tiny cuts that may not be visible to the naked (no pun intended) eye but are real nonetheless and can get infected. If you feel itching, burning or other irritation especially when you pee, have white spots, redness, yellowish oozing fluid and/or a rash, you may have a yeast infection.
When in doubt, see your doctor asap to get a definitive answer. While there are many home remedies found online, your best bet – embarrassing as it might be – is to go to the pros and get yourself checked by a doctor for not only a proper diagnosis but proper treatment plan, too.
Depending on the severity of the problem, treatment with medication can often clear up symptoms within several days. More serious cases might take several weeks.
